چکیده

A series of large-eddy simulations (LES) of non-precipitating cumulus clouds over land was performed. These simulations were idealized from observed conditions at the Southern Great Plains ARM site on 21 June 1997 and were intended to investigate the effect of initial soil moisture on the structure of the cloudy boundary layer. The surface fluxes were either dominated by latent heat or sensible heat flux, with the transition between one regime and the other occurring over a very narrow soil moisture range. The effect on clouds was mixed. Cloud fraction was nearly identical throughout all experiments. Simulations with dominant sensible heat fluxes led to more turbulent boundary layers and higher cloud bases. Simulations dominated by latent heat flux tended to have fewer but stronger updrafts in the cloud layer. D 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

تاثیر نوع ابرهای پایین جو بر میزان دقت شبیه سازی رواناب در مدل SWAT

Introduction: Patterns of spatial and temporal rainfall impact on runoff and outlet hydrograph (Cordery, 1993; James, 1994). Results of different studies have clarified that simulation by using diverse rainfall data could increase the reliance of results. These were much more sensible in which areas encounter with data scarcity (Mello et al., 2008; Bekiaris et al., 2008). Rainfall properties in...

Parameterization of the Bulk Effects of Lateral and Cloud-Top Entrainment in Transient Shallow Cumulus Clouds

A parameterization of shallow cumulus clouds for use in atmospheric general circulation models is proposed. The parameterization uses a bulk representation of an ensemble of transient clouds. Entrainment of environmental air occurs at the ascending top of the cumulus cloud and also at the lateral boundaries of the region below the top of the cloud. Complete detrainment of the air in the cloud o...

Impact of land use on Costa Rican tropical montane cloud forests: Sensitivity of cumulus cloud field characteristics to lowland deforestation

[1] Recent studies have shown that there has been a reduction in dry season moisture input from direct interception of cloud water and wind-blown mist at the lee edge of the Monteverde cloud forest, Costa Rica, since the mid 1970s. This reduction of moisture could be responsible for the population crashes of anurans observed in the region. It has been hypothesized that this behavior is a result...

Large-eddy simulation of subtropical cloud-topped boundary layers: 1. A forcing framework with closed surface energy balance

Large-eddy simulation (LES) of clouds has the potential to resolve a central question in climate dynamics, namely, how subtropical marine boundary layer (MBL) clouds respond to global warming. However, large-scale processes need to be prescribed or represented parameterically in the limited-area LES domains. It is important that the representation of large-scale processes satisfies constraints ...
